The Fishing
The Upper North Platte River offers over 200 miles of world class Trout fishing and Medicine Bow Anglers fishes it all. Saratoga, Wyoming is home base. We are located on the freestone section, upstream of the dams. The Upper North Platte offers a great variety of fly fishing. Within a short distance you can fish wilderness canyons, pastoral hay meadows and high desert country. The majority of our season is spent on the upper freestone sections of the Platte. During the spring run off and late fall we hide behind the dams to stay on top of the best fishing
The freestone section of the river is well known for it’s abundant aquatic insect life. The natural conditions of the Upper North Platte create an ideal environment for a huge variety cold water bugs. There are many hatches through out the season but we are best known for three species. Commonly known as Salmon Flies, Green Drakes and Tricos. Not only because they are the most fun for dry fly fisherman but also because they are a great indicator the whole ecosystem.
